AnnoyingOrange

RealAnnoyingOrange (also known as The Annoying Orange) was one of YouTube's most popular web series. It was created by a Minnesota film student, Dane Boedigheimer (under the pseudonym Dane Boe). It was supposed to be only one video, but because of its growing popularity, Boedigheimer decided to turn it into an Internet series. The first videos were uploaded under Boedigheimer's YouTube channel Dane Boe, but then Boedigheimer created a channel dedicated to Orange. As of 2011, the channel is ranked the 8th most subscribed, and the 35th most viewed, of all time. More than 2,000,000 YouTubers have subscribed to Orange's channel. And as of 2021, the channel has declined to the 753rd most subscribed youtube channel with 10.8 Million subscribers. It ranks as the 366th most viewed channel of all time.

Background

Main article: Orange

Orange's history may have began before the series debuted; a talking orange first appeared in one of Boedigheimer's videos on March 16, 2007. That video hasn't been posted on Boedigheimer's channel though.

The current show features Orange, an anthropomorphic orange. The first episode was released on October 9, 2009. Orange's friends include Pear, a Bartlett pear with a brotherly attitude, Passion Fruit, a female passionfruit and his crush in an alternate reality, Midget Apple, a tiny Red Delicious apple, and Marshmallow, a small childlike marshmallow as well as Midget Apple's best friend. Secondary characters include Grapefruit, an egotistical and courageous grapefruit, and Grandpa Lemon, an elderly, narcoleptic lemon with an adventurous past. Another well-known, but inactive character is Apple, Orange's very first "victim" who has set a legacy for Orange since the very first episode.

All of the characters are animated by having the actors' eyes and mouth superimposed onto the object the actor was playing. Most characters' eyes are one of their eyes duplicated since it is easier to animate. For example, Dane Boedigheimer using his own eyes and mouth to play Orange, Pear, Marshmallow, and Midget Apple, although Orange's mouth has done some modifications to have a distinctive orange tint on it.

As of March, 2014, more than two billion views hit the series. The most popular episode (Rolling in the Dough) has over 230 million views.

Main Characters

Orange

He's annoying. He's obnoxious. He's partial to terrible puns. But deep down, Orange always means well, even though his boredom often drags his friends into ridiculous adventures.

Pear

Pear is both friend and foil to Orange, and he often stands as the sole voice of reason in the fruit stand. Pear's attempts to talk Orange out of his wilder ideas never work.

Midget Apple

Midget Apple is an adorable, small apple with a scrappy demeanor. He prefers to be called "Little Apple," but hardly anybody obliges.

Marshmallow

The sole non-fruit in the group, Marshmallow is an eternally upbeat, rainbow-and-unicorn-obsessed ray of sticky, gooey sunshine.

Passion Fruit

She's adorable, pragmatic and smart. So why does Passion Fruit have such a big crush on Orange? It's no secret she likes him, except to Orange, who is completely oblivious.

Grapefruit

Grapefruit is a hulking man-boy who considers himself as "large and in charge." He believes he's in a rivalry with Orange for Passion Fruit's affection, but she has no interest in him.

Grandpa Lemon

Grandpa Lemon is the befuddled, elder statesman of the fruit stand. He thinks he's everybody's grandpa, and he often falls asleep in mid-sentence.

Apple

Although he was chopped up in the first episode, Apple is the very character that has set a legacy for Orange since then. It was said that he was friends with Orange, although this hasn't been entirely proven.

Recurring Characters

Squash

Despite being a giant gourd that crushes everything in sight, Squash actually doesn't want to hurt anybody. He is, aside from Knife, one of the most depressed of the crew. Each time he accidentally crushes someone, he is very disgusted and regretful by his actions.

Knife

The sole murder weapon of the group. Appeared since the very beginning, he has been used to slice and dice several fruits, vegetables and many other foods. Despite his purpose, Knife is actually very kind at heart and doesn't actually want to hurt anyone. He, like Squash, is always regretful and disgusted by his unintentional actions.

Liam the Leprechaun

Considered one of the infamous characters, Liam had always deplored Orange's annoying behavior and swore revenge on Orange since the day he was crushed by his own pot of gold. However, his life back at home isn't too well, either. He is always picked on by his boss and a very rude four-leafed clover.

Captain Obvious

One of Orange's accomplices in annoyance, he tends to state some of the most obvious things that even a 3-year-old could figure out. The whole gang (except Orange and Marshmallow) gets very irritated by this.

Nude Dude

Another annoying member of the group, but wait... he's an apple! But unlike the other apples, he's peeled. Leading him to believe that he's actually naked. Nude Dude is actually proud of this, and his pride definitely shows.

Copper Lincoln

When you think of President Abraham Lincoln, you think of a strictly professional man who is all work and no play. Copper Lincoln is nothing like who he resembles. Instead, he is a cut-loose, fun-loving free spirit who always finds a reason to either dance or celebrate.

Zoom

All energy drinks claim that they're the best, and will keep you up all night. However, none of them can perform like Zoom. The official energy drink of 2012, Zoom is able to give you a full night's rest in 30 seconds, and will keep you up and active for the next 10 hours. The only energy drink that can top that is Zip, which contains more energy per ounce.

Dr. Bananas

The craziest, yet most intelligent member of the group, Dr. Bananas is known for making revolutionary, yet deadly inventions. He also has trouble when deciding what options to put on his machine dials. He has even found ways to bring himself back from the dead.

Mustachios

After five of these mustached pistachios starred in one episode, they began to hide all over the kitchen in various episodes, worried that their flavor will expose them as a nice snack. These little nuts with facial hair must hide before they are caught by a hungry person seeking a nice afternoon or midnight snack.
